Inspiring Governance is delighted to have the National Association of Headteachers backing the Educators on Board campaign to encourage more education professionals onto school governing boards.
Launched last year, our joint campaign with the National Governance Association, aims to inspire teachers, middle leaders and senior leaders into school governance. At Inspiring Governance, we regularly get governing boards say to us how greatly they value the experience and insight teaching professionals at all levels can offer them in undertaking their strategic oversight role.
Serving and aspiring leaders who have chosen to sit on governing boards also articulate that becoming a governor provides excellent CPD for taking on a future strategic leadership role in school. In particular, becoming a governor in a school outside of your immediate educational context provides an even better opportunity to reflect on your own practice and to share and gather good practice from others.
Natalie Arnett, Policy officer for the NAHT said: “You can gain a lot of insight into developing the strategy and vision for a school as well as financial planning and budgetary oversight – things that you might not normally otherwise get access to in a school on a day-to-day basis, particularly at that top level.” A big thank you to the NAHT for backing the campaign!
