Are you a woman working in the sports sector? Would you like to inspire the next generation of girls and young women to consider a career in sport? Are you able to give one hour of your time to talk to girls about your job and career path?
Inspiring Women is asking women who work in the sports sector to pledge one hour a year to go to a local school and chat to girls about what it is like to work in your industry. We are looking for women working in all types of sport doing all kinds of jobs – including athletes, coaches, HR officers, physios, journalists, accountants – and at all levels, from graduate trainees to trustees and CEOs.
Many high-profile sporting organisations have already given their backing, including Women in Sport, the British Olympic Association, the FA, BT Sport, the English Cricket Board, the LTA, Women in Sport, England Netball, Sport and Recreation Alliance, and Women in Football. BT Sports presenter Clare Balding is taking a leading role in the campaign, as is Helen Grant MP, Minister for Sport.
The Inspiring Women campaign is co-ordinated by educational charity Education and Employers. The campaign aims to bring about a significant culture change – that young women, whatever school they attend, whatever their background, get the chance to meet women from all backgrounds and gain first-hand insights into different jobs and the routes into them. The aim is to get 15,000 women to pledge an hour a year to go into a school or college near to where they live or work and talk with 250,000 young women about their career and experiences in life.
During the week 21st February – 1st March 2015 the Inspiring Women in Sport campaign is planning a week of action with events up and down the country bringing together women working in sports and the next generation of girls and young women. The aim is to broaden awareness amongst girls of the range of jobs in sport; identify female role models; and shine a spotlight on women in sport.
