This week we were lucky enough to be able to attend the Vodafone Festival of technology, held at their Newbury Campus in Reading. Over 300 attendees came together to learn more about the range and benefits of apprenticeships
The Festival of Technology Apprenticeships was hosted by Vodafone, and involved a number of other employers offering technology, IT or engineering apprenticeships. So it’s a great opportunity for those looking to start their career to research the options available to them.
The event aimed to give those considering an apprenticeship in technology the opportunity to speak to employers about everything from the skills apprentices will develop to how far their ideas can really take them. The event included:
- An apprentice panel answering questions from students, parents and teachers
- Gaming sessions where students could try out the Vodafone Discover game
- Campus tours
- Employability advice sessions
A Vodafone representative said:
“Vodafone have got a track record of recruiting apprentices, who go on into a successful career with us, and this year we are expanding our programme even further in terms of the numbers of apprenticeships offered and the levels available. Our Apprenticeship Programme lets you work for one of the most exciting companies in the UK while developing your skills and knowledge with real industry experts. With schemes for those educated to both GCSE and A Level, it’s a fantastic opportunity to kick start your career, be paid a really competitive salary and earn valuable, real-world experience while you study. You’ll spend either 18 months or 2 years in a variety of different learning environments, working alongside experts and gaining real-life experience.”
Local MP, Richard Benyon, said:
“Apprenticeships are a life-changing route into employment for many young people. I have seen first-hand from visits around my constituency how successful they are, providing practical hands-on training for participants leading to opportunities for the future and skills which last a lifetime, as well as ensuring the host companies have a pool of knowledgeable well trained employees – a win-win situation for both parties. This event is a great chance for any young person interested in a future in tech, IT and engineering to find out more from some of the leading businesses in West Berkshire. I am grateful to Vodafone for organising it.”
With apprenticeships now available up to degree level, vocational routes into the world of work are an increasingly popular route for young people. In partnership with the Skills Funding Agency, we’re working on the Apprenticeship Skills and Knowledge for Schools Project as delivery partners for London and the South, to help you people learn more about how to access these opportunities.
With National Apprenticeship Week beginning on Monday, we’d love to hear what you have planned to mark the week. Tweet us @InspiringTF with the hashtag #NAW2017 to let us know what you’re up to!
