Today is Social Mobility Day! Whilst it seems like there is a themed day for everything, this is about an issue our charity thinks is crucial – raising aspirations and ensuring that a young person’s background doesn’t determine their future.
Our research shows that young people’s aspirations are heavily influenced by the jobs their family and neighbours do, TV, and social media. Far too many young people are failing to achieve their potential simply because, as the saying goes, ‘you can’t be what you can’t see’.
That’s why we are so passionate about giving young people the chance to meet and interact with diverse role models from the world of work who can raise aspirations, broaden horizons, and show children what is possible in life. And this is happening every day in primary and secondary schools across the country thanks to Inspiring the Future volunteers like you.
Today we are delighted to announce that over 4,000,000 interactions between our volunteers and young people have already taken place – inspiring light bulb moments that open new possibilities to a world they might not have imagined for themselves.
We think that every young person in our country should have the opportunity to hear first-hand from volunteers like you, breaking down barriers to opportunities, raising aspirations, and helping those who need it most to achieve their potential.
That is why we have set ourselves the ambitious target of achieving 10,000,000 interactions between young people and the world of work.
Help us hit our target and make a difference to young people’s futures! Volunteer
